What is HIFU?

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is a non-surgical tightening treatment that uses ultrasound energy to contract and lift the skin. It targets multiple layers of your skin, stimulating collagen production to improve laxity and wrinkles.

How does HIFU work?

The HIFU device delivers focused ultrasound beams to various depths within your skin (namely the skin layer, subcutaneous fat layer, and SMAS muscle layer).

This targeted energy heats the tissue, causing micro-injuries. Your body’s natural response is to repair these injuries, which triggers new collagen production, leading to firmer, tighter skin.

how deep can HIFU go?

2mm: targets the thinnest facial areas, like around the eyes and forehead.
3 mm: targets the dermis layer of the skin to improve wrinkles and laxity.
4.5mm: targets the SMAS layer to address concerns like jowls and lower face laxity.
6mm: targets the deeper subcutaneous (fat) layer, which is necessary for certain problems like stubborn submental fat (double chin).

What are the benefits of HIFU?

Non-surgical: Patients can avoid the risks of surgery, including infection and general anaesthesia.
Lesser Risks: HIFU has fewer potential complications compared to surgery.
Little Downtime: Most people can resume normal activities right away.
Long-lasting Results: While results can vary, HIFU's effects on collagen production can last for up to a year.

As much as HIFU is a non-invasive modality for skin tightening, it is also important to understand that HIFU is not a replacement for a surgical face-lift. With HIFU, results tend to be more gradual and natural.

What is the downtime after a HIFU treatment?

HIFU has minimal downtime. You might experience some temporary redness or swelling for less than a day. It is normal to experience itch or aching after the treatment, but this is not visible and should not impede your daily activities.

when will i see results?

Results from HIFU start to show from Week 2 onwards, and peak at 2-3 months. Results can last up to 9-12 months. Do remember that everyone is constantly aging, and so results are never permanent.

The recommended interval between HIFU treatments vary, depending on your response and desired results. Generally, the average interval between treatments is 6 months, although a shorter interval can be undertaken for faster results depending on your skin condition.
