Skin tags are small, soft growths that typically protrude out of the skin by a thin stalk. They are flesh or slightly darker growths that are composed of collagen fibers, blood vessels, and a layer of skin.
Often, they can be found in areas of higher friction – where skin folds or rubs. Factors such as genetics, hormonal changes, and obesity may contribute to their formation.
Milia, commonly known as ‘oil seeds’, are small, pearly-white cysts that often appear as tiny bumps on the skin. They form when dead skin cells become trapped in small pockets near the skin’s surface, creating small, cyst-like structures.
They can occur as a result of skin damage, or using thick heavy moisturisers. They are also common in newborns and may result from blocked sweat ducts. They are benign and harmless, but can pose a cosmetic concern for some.
Here at Astria, we use an ablative CO2 laser to remove skin tags, milia and seborrheic keratoses.
