What is Dry Skin?

Dry skin is characterized by a lack of proper hydration and insufficient moisture levels in the skin. It often leads to a rough, flaky texture that is and sometimes itchy.

What are the Causes of Dry Skin?

Low Sebum Production: Due to genetics, one may have an inadequate production of natural oils (sebum).
Environmental Factors: Exposure to harsh weather conditions, especially low humidity and cold winds, can strip the skin of its natural oils.
Hot Water and Harsh Cleansers: Frequent use of hot water and harsh soaps or cleansers can disrupt the skin’s lipid barrier and cause dryness.
Aging: As individuals age, there is a natural decline in sebum production and a reduction in skin's ability to retain moisture.
Underlying Skin Conditions: Certain skin conditions like eczema leads to a weakened skin barrier, making the skin more prone to flakiness and dryness.

Dry vs. Dehydrated Skin; what's the difference?

Dry skin: a true skin type characterized by a lack of natural oils (sebum). It is often a long-term condition and can be influenced by genetic factors. Dry skin lacks sufficient lipids, leading to a consistent feeling of tightness and roughness.
Dehydrated skin: is a temporary condition where the skin lacks water (not oil) content. Even oily skin can experience dehydration. Dehydrated skin can feel tight, look dull, and show more fine lines.

How Do i Prevent dry skin?

Hydrating Skincare: Use moisturizers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides to lock in moisture and improve skin hydration.
Humidifiers: In dry environments, using humidifiers can add moisture to the air, preventing excessive skin dryness.
Gentle Cleansing: Opt for mild, fragrance-free cleansers that won't strip the skin of its natural oils. Avoid hot water and opt for lukewarm temperatures during baths or showers.
