What are the causes of Enlarged Pores?

  • Excessive Oil Production: Increased sebum production can lead to the accumulation of oil, causing the pores to enlarge.
  • Sun damage & aging: As the skin ages, collagen levels decline, leading to reduced skin elasticity. This can make pores appear larger.
  • Genetics: Genetic factors influence skin structure, including pore size. Individuals with a family history of enlarged pores may be predisposed to the condition.
  • Clogging of Pores: Accumulation of debris and dead skin cells within the pores can stretch them over time.

Enlarged Pores vs. Acne Scars

Enlarged pores are sometimes confused with acne scars, particularly ice-pick scars! They may look similar but are treated differently for better results.
  • Enlarged Pores: Involve visible, dilated openings on the skin's surface that are typically associated with oil and debris accumulation.
  • Acne Scars: Result from the healing process of acne lesions, leading to changes in skin texture. Acne scars can include pitted scars or raised scars and are often unrelated to pore size.
